Job Title: Director, Green, Standards, Patents, Open Source
Location: San Jose, CA

Job Description & Responsibilities

As part of the DSSG CTO Office, the individual will lead the strategy of innovation and roadmap as a path to growth and sustained industry leadership of data center concepts in the following areas of focus: Green, Standards, Open Source and Patents that align with Cisco’s strategy.

This position will report directly to DSSG CTO.

The leader will be working with a top-notch team and will be expected to drive significant thought leadership and foster innovation to ensure future growth – while balancing execution. The ideal candidate should have experience in leading cross functional teams for large, complex companies, and has the credibility to command the respect and collaboration of both peers and partners in all. The ability to develop close contacts and relationships across the company is critical to the role. Facilitate and promote internal alignment and cross functional teaming in support of strategic objectives and initiatives. Take a leadership role in successfully raising the profile of the Green strategy, Standards/Open Source/ Patents strategy and its processes to deliver direct impact to the business and its goals. The candidate must be an excellent communicator and have past experience presenting to executive staff and CXO level audiences. The candidate must also be able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Professional Experience & Skills

• Industry-recognized technical expertise/experience in data center, virtualization, cloud, automation, and highly-scalable systems
• Experience and strong working knowledge of data center Green initiatives, Standards, Open Source and Patents
• Demonstrated thought leadership expertise and success within the industry
• Ability to translate high-level goals to requirements, and integrate new technologies/solutions and approaches as needed to meet these requirements
• Excellent stakeholder management expertise
• Requires 15+ years experience, preferably combined with an advanced degree in engineering or computer science
• Excellent communicator and influencer
• Must be capable of successfully presenting to a variety of audiences (e.g. executive level, highly technical level, marketing, sales audiences, etc.)
• Committed to remaining on the “leading edge” of knowledge in the overall datacenter switching space, while helping Cisco achieve a leading role in this new market opportunity
• Develop content into a comprehensive and compelling story
• Delivers within timelines based on high quality, sustainable results
• Multi-task with ability to manage several strategic projects covering high level and tactical details
• Must have an open style and an instinct to collaborate
• Must be flexible and willing to shift focus based on business requirements
• Must be self-motivated, and actively seek feedback.


EDUCATION:
A technical undergraduate degree or other demonstrated high technology aptitude is required. Advanced degree preferred.
